Built for Teens. Designed to Level Up.

At Legacy Jiu-Jitsu Academy, we know teens thrive when they have a program built specifically for them. That’s why we offer Teen Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Teen Muay Thai for youth ages 13–16—structured classes that challenge them physically while helping them grow mentally and emotionally.

Muay Thai teaches powerful striking, footwork, and movement that improves speed, agility, coordination, and confidence. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on grappling and ground control, helping teens develop balance, flexibility, core strength, and problem-solving skills under pressure. Together, these programs create a well-rounded martial arts experience that builds real self-defense skills and strong personal discipline.

Core Benefits

Real Life Skills for Real Life Pressure

Today’s teens face constant distractions, pressure, and overstimulation—from school demands to technology and social media. Martial arts gives them a positive place to unplug, reset, and focus on something real.

Through consistent training, teens build healthier habits, stronger self-confidence, and resilience to handle challenges with a clear mind. The discipline, perseverance, and accountability they develop on the mats carries into school, home, and everyday life.

Built Up, Not Broken Down

Teens build real self-esteem at Legacy by learning skills, earning progress, and proving to themselves what they’re capable of. With every class, they gain confidence through effort, consistency, and small wins that add up over time.

Just as important, they train in a positive, encouraging environment where they’re supported by coaches and teammates who want to see them succeed—without judgment or negativity.

Think Fast. Stay Calm.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai teach teens how to think while they move—solving problems, making quick decisions, and staying focused. Whether they’re working through a position in BJJ or learning timing and combinations in Muay Thai, they build critical thinking skills in a fun, active way.

Over time, many teens get better at handling frustration, staying composed when things feel hard, and pushing through challenges without quitting. Training is also a powerful outlet for stress—helping them reset, burn energy in a healthy way, and leave class feeling more balanced and confident.

Find Your People. Build Your Legacy.

At Legacy, teens become part of a supportive team where they’re welcomed, encouraged, and challenged in the best way. They build real friendships, train alongside positive peers, and feel like they belong—no matter their experience level.

Our coaches set a strong tone with high standards and genuine support. Teens are coached with respect, consistency, and positive leadership so they can grow with confidence, accountability, and pride on and off the mats.

Teen Martial Arts FAQ

What do teens wear for training? Expand

For BJJ, teens need a gi (martial arts uniform), rash guard, and spandex shorts. For Muay Thai, athletic shorts and a t-shirt work fine, plus eventually hand wraps, gloves, and shin guards. We provide loaner equipment for trial classes so you can try before purchasing gear.

What makes the Teen Martial Arts program different from kids or adult classes? Expand

Our Teen Martial Arts program is specifically designed for ages 13-16, recognizing that teenagers have different physical abilities, attention spans, and goals than younger kids or adults. Training is more intensive than kids' classes with advanced techniques, while still being age-appropriate. Classes provide a positive peer environment that builds confidence during crucial developmental years.

How does martial arts benefit teens beyond self-defense? Expand

Martial arts training provides structure, discipline, and goal-setting during a critical time in adolescent development. Teens gain increased confidence, improved physical fitness, stress relief and emotional regulation, respect for themselves and others, a positive peer group, leadership skills, and a healthy alternative to screen time. Many parents report improvements in grades, attitude, and overall behavior.

When my teen turns 17, can they continue training at Legacy? Expand

Yes! At 17, students typically transition to our adult classes, which offer more advanced training and a different class dynamic. We make this transition smooth and celebratory. If your teen is 16 and mature enough for adult classes, we can discuss that option as well. Our goal is continuous martial arts development for life.

For years, my whole family and I have been going to this gym, and it has been amazing. We are all in the Muay Thai program and have moved up through the ranks, making friends who feel like family. The program has really helped us grow in the discipline. The tough training, along with the supportive atmosphere, has taught us dedication and hard work. Our instructors are very knowledgeable and always encourage us to do our best. The gym is always very clean, showing how much the management cares about keeping a safe and healthy place for everyone. Because of this, we can focus on our training without worrying about anything else. For me, the health benefits have been incredible. I have lost over 60 pounds since joining, thanks to the great workouts and constant motivation from the instructors and other members. My family's overall fitness and well-being have gotten so much better, making us stronger and healthier. In short, the Muay Thai gym has become a big part of our lives, giving us a supportive community, helping us grow in the discipline, and improving our health. We highly recommend it to anyone looking to get fit and improve themselves.

Our child has been learning BJJ at Legacy BJJ for more than 2 years now. This BJJ academy is very family friendly. The owners and professors/coaches are professional and kind, and they care about safety, sportsmanship, respect, and efforts! I remember vividly the first time at their intraschool tournament, before the start, the professor spoke publicly to all adults present, about the proper conduct to watch a Jiu jitsu match. It’s a great reminder that we respect each other regardless of the outcome. It’s a positive place for children and adults. We highly recommend. In addition to offering high quality martial art classes, the owners have a heart to the community. They routinely fundraise and donate to charities. They provide the space to a FREE women self defense class on Friday nights. I highly recommend any woman (16+) to check it out.

We signed our boys up at Legacy almost 2 years ago. It was one of the best choices we’ve ever made! We were struggling with our oldest sons ADHD and were looking for a positive outlet. 2 years later and he’s a different kid. He’s found something he’s passionate about. He is driven, focused and he’s made huge strides in every aspect of life. Our younger son has had tremendous growth as well. Both boys have started competing this year and are just obsessed with the sport. The gym and members have become like a second home and family. The coaches and professors are all amazing and professional. The owners are wonderful and really strive to make a difference in the community. The facility is clean. Our kids have all made such strong, positive, lasting friendships. A year ago we signed our oldest daughter up as well and it has made such a fantastic difference in her life. Can’t wait until our baby girl is old enough to start as well, she already has her eye on a pink gi 🩷 since starting I have noticed my kids make such strides in sportsmanship, respect, discipline and self confidence. It’s really such a family friendly place and everyone there really cares about these kids.

I have been at Legacy Jiu-Jitsu Academy since I began grappling several years ago. The atmosphere and coaching have kept me at this gym since then. I have formed lifelong friendships through this sport and Legacy. I have also brought in coworkers to train, who went on to love the sport. In practice, you will find a solid mixture of experienced grapplers and beginners. The experienced grapplers are more than willing to show the new members the ropes during training and keep them safe during sparring.I highly recommend this gym.

It’s not just that the staff is professional and kind or that the classes are geared towards EVERYONE. I’ve never been so scared walking into a business for the first time and been made to feel so completely welcome and comfortable within literal seconds. Walking into Legacy was the best thing I ever did.
